Weather in India

Like the cultural diversity of India, weather in India also defies any preset calculations. Indian weather comprises of a wide range of weather conditions. The varied topography and enormous geographical scale present in India makes the climate of the country very much unique and unpredictable. India has variety of climatic subtypes. If you will find glaciers in the north then you will also witness desert in the west and humid tropical regions supporting rain forests in the southwest. Even within the same region you will find severely different micro climates.

The climate in India is strongly influenced by its distinctive geography. India is essentially a tropical country which has four major seasons, summer, winter, monsoon and autumn. India's weather can credit its uniqueness to presence of mighty Himalayas in the north and the Thar Desert in the northwest. Indian weather conditions are largely unstable in nature and don’t stay for more than 2-3 months. But thanks to country’s distinctive geography and geology, India never had to suffer from extreme climatic changes.

Indian weather is truly diverse. Weather in India can change any minute of the time. Indian weather has always puzzled geographers. It is hard to predict rainfall, flood, and onset of summer and winter and temperature fluctuations. India is spread along vast physical distance which makes its weather even more unpredictable. But at the same time, Indian agriculture has also benefitted from fluctuating climate. India has an expertise in growing different kinds of vegetations under different weather conditions. If western India is famous for a particular agricultural production then Northern India has a different specialty.

India’s geographical position is quite fascinating. It is surrounded by Bay of Bengal in the East, Himalayan mountain range from North, Arabian Sea from the west and gigantic sea in the south. India has been divided into major climate regions like, the Western Ghats, Himalayas, Indo-Gangetic Plain, Interiors of the Deccan and coast. If temperature during the winter can reach to sub minus level in extreme North then heat can get oppressive during the summer and you will find temperature as high as 50 degree C in places like Jaisalmer and Nagpur.
